red ribbon weekCelebrate Red Ribbon Week from October 23rd through the 31st this year!

As the oldest and largest drug abuse prevention initiative in the nation, Red Ribbon Week has spread awareness to millions of young people.

Red Ribbon Week is the work of the National Family Partnership (NFP), which started in 1980. The Partnership provides education to parents about the health risks associated with drug use and promotes alternative social activities for drug-free youth.

Red Ribbon Week Started For One Person

The campaign started when drug traffickers in Mexico City tortured and murdered DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in 1985. Red ribbons were worn by family members and friends of agent Camarena as a display of solidarity in support of the wide circle of victims affected by substance abuse.  It also symbolizes Camarena’s personal battle against illegal drugs and his belief that one person can make a difference.

The goal is to create a drug-free America and to help alleviate the emotional and social damage caused by drugs. Celebrate Red Ribbon Week in your community by displaying the ribbon and other related merchandise.
