A Million Hearts This Month

/ 20/02/2012 /

How many of us associate the month of February with heart-shaped expressions of love? It is also American Heart Month, and the sobering truth is that heart disease and stroke claim the lives of loved ones much too often.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cardiovascular disease causes the equivalent of 2200 deaths per day, and is the leading cause of death in the United States.

Re:sourxe Supports Women with Go Red

Re:sourxe supports efforts to encourage heart-healthy choices – not only as a retail solution, but as family members or neighbors of people affected by cardiovascular disease. We have previously mentioned Go Red for Women [HERE] as part of our continuing efforts to bring attention to American Heart Month. Go Red for Women is “a passionate, emotional, social initiative” by the American Heart Association (AHA), “designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.” It seeks to repaint the myth that heart disease mostly affects older men – to raise awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of women.

Million Hearts

Re:sourxe continues our observance of American Heart Month by joining the Million Hearts™ national initiative set forth by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that aims to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in the U.S. by the end of 2016. It is a public-private partnership led by CDC and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Federal partners, such as the National Institutes of Health and the HHS Office of the Secretary, and organizations from the private sector – such as the AHA, the American Medical Association, and American Nurses Association -- have partnered with Million Hearts to integrate and amplify a range of existing heart disease and stroke prevention programs, policies, and activities.

As a retail solution for healthcare providers, Re:sourxe by Sodexo is proud to help raise awareness for initiatives such as these, and to offer products that directly benefit organizations like the American Heart Association and Million Hearts.

Thank you for joining our efforts, and those of these important organizations, with your patients, employees, and customers.
